Making of Dance Pe Chance | Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi

Arguably the biggest movie to hit theatres this year, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is special for Bollywood fans for several reasons. It features one of the biggest stars in the country, Shahrukh Khan, in the lead. RNBDJ is also the return of Aditya Chopra as the captain of the ship, after 8 long years since his last directorial Mohabbatein which released way back in 2000.

So with expectations sky high, the two most respected personalities in Bollywood today come together for Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi which releases worldwide on December 12th 2008.

The music has released to a mixed response. It certainly does not have the chartbuster tunes that Yashraj Films is known for. Haule Haule is by far the most popular track so far, mostly due to the promos already being on air. But most songs from Aditya Chopra movies turn chartbusters post the release of the movie, credit for which should go to the brilliant picturization of the songs.

The

The music of RNBDJ has been composed by Salim Merchant and Sulaiman Merchant, popularly known as Salim - Sulaiman.

    Aamir Continues to Surprise

Actor Aamir Khan has this ability to constantly surprise his audiences. Just when they think they have him figured out, he shows another side of his character and floors them.
The actor, who made an appearance on one of the music shows on television, had the audience on the show floored when he went ahead and played the drums for a while. It seems that the actor, in his quest for perfection, had mastered the art while shooting for a film called Parampara, made many years ago. He must have continued practicing over the years, as he did not appear to be too rusty when he played on the show. It all started when music director Aadesh Srivastav requested him to play the drums. While he did so, the composer, along with his colleague Shankar Mahadevan sang the song, 'Papa Kehte Hain'. The third composer present on the show, Pritam, joined them with his guitar. Incidentally, the only one who was out of all this action was Himesh Reshammiya. The actor also did his 'Aati Kya Khandala' bit with one of the participants. In short, the actor seems to have enjoyed himself and ensured that he had the audience eating out of his hands.

    Synopsis :

Harry – 65. Recluse, Eccentric. Passionate. Besides being a Shakespearean stage actor and an ardent fan of The Master, his life seems like a play after he meets Siddharth. A play replete with action, drama, love, emotions, tension – and an expected friendship. Siddharth is a new-age film director – his cool clothes and casual persona well disguise his eccentricities. He is a visionary, a visionary who would stop at nothing to get what he wants. As opposites attract, may be likeminded people get along well too. How else would one explain the fast blossoming friendship between these two eccentrically creative minds? When the cinema-ignorant Harry is offered a magnificent role in Siddharths' next film, he is apprehensive at first, reluctant later and finally acceptable to the idea.

As the shoot takes them to the sprawling mountainous landscapes of India, new relationships bloom. Upcoming actor Shabnam, who is struggling hard to cope with her messy personal life, finds an unexpected mentor in Harry. He teaches her more than merely the nuances of acting.

From being a complete outsider to the world of commercial cinema, Harry soon becomes one of them – open to learning new methods of working, chatting with the unit members and sipping tea from a fancy thermos he never knew was invented, he is enjoying!

Little does he know that as the film rolls and he gets into the skin of the character of the Joker that he is playing, he may be taking his role a bit too seriously. Is he that good an actor, or is Fate really making him out to be a Joker on the set? As the intense moments unfold, which are even more engaging that the film itself, masks would be taken off a few faces. Towards the sunset of his life, long after the last shot is taken, as his memory fades, all that Harry can remember are his

    Masters words..

"..I am doubtful as I am mainly ignorant,

What place is this, And the skill I have

Remembers not these garments, nor I know not

Where did I lodge last night,

    Do not laugh at me…"

They all live in the hope that someday Tahaan's father, who's been missing for over three years, will return. The death of his grandfather leads the local moneylender Lalaji and his manager Kuka (Rahul Khanna) to take away the assets of the family, including their pet donkey Birbal, against repayment of a pending loan. Now, life for Tahaan, his mother and sister takes a turn towards rougher pastures. For Tahaan, bringing his favourite donkey Birbal back home becomes the sole purpose in life. After various efforts at money-making, Tahaan approaches Lalaji with the prospect of regaining his lost asset but is devastated to learn that an old man Subhan Darr (Anupam Kher) has bought Birbal and taken him across the mountains… the same mountains from where Tahaan's father never returned. But Tahaan sums up courage and chases after Subhan. The prophetic old man doesn't befriend Tahaan at first sight but slowly warms up to this energetic and determined soul whose love for Birbal is paramount. But at the end of the journey, Tahaan is further disheartened when Subhan gifts Birbal to his orphaned eight-year-old nephew, and even the long-time helper of Subhan called Zafar (Rahul Bose), cannot be of any assistance to poor Tahaan. On his way back home, Tahaan finally encounters a teenage lad Idrees, who convinces him that his efforts would never be sufficient to get Birbal back. Instead, he promises to get Birbal back for a favour. All Tahaan will have to do is carry a package across the mountains on his next journey. Seeing Tahaan's eagerness, Idrees hands him a grenade. He tells him that when the time is right he will be told what is to be done. Tahaan sets off on his second journey with Subhan and Zafar, the grenade and package tucked away under Birbal's saddle. What is the price that Tahaan will have to pay for Birbal? And how far will he go to save his only meaning in life? Tahaan is now at a crossroad where his ultimate decision would determine his fate… "Will he get Birbal back?"

E.M.I. or Easy Monthly Installments is a bittersweet satire that looks at modern day India in a mirthfully subjective way.

It is an engaging pick on the easy-to-get but taxing to hold the rather volatile credit economy.

It's a narrative about diverse characters with equally diverse ambitions and motivations… a peek into their lives…situations that they just didn't anticipate when they indulge their material desires with a little readily available monetary boost.

    Krazzy 4

It's a mad, mad, mad world out there

    Someone's nutty about money …

    Someone's deranged by power…

    Someone's cracked with stress…

    Someone's unhinged by overwork…

    Someone's insanely in love….

It's a mad, mad, mad world out there and everybody's worried they're going bananas…. Except the Krazzy 4. Because they know they're already Krazzy!

Raja's anger knows no bounds, he'll hit out at the slightest provocation or even without.

Intermittent explosive disorder is what the doctors call it. 'Sarphira', is what everybody else does!

Dr Mukherjee is your perfect doc – clean and orderly, not a pin out of place. So what's wrong with that? Obsessive compulsive personality disorder, that's what.

Schizophrenic Gangadhar lives in the past…his mates are Nehru and Gandhi, Tilak and Patel! He's so busy fighting for swaraj and freedom, he's lost his sanity!

Cute Dabboo is everybody's pet. So what if he hasn't spoken for years? So what if he's frightened all the time? So what if he's autistic?

Dr Sonali treats them all. She has faith that all it needs is a little time and lots of patience to make them normal…to make them part of the mad, mad, mad world out there…

But are the Krazzy 4 ready for the world? And is the world ready for them? Watch out! The Krazzy 4 are coming your way!!

And yes...If you think they r crazy, think again!

    Cast/Character Sketches

Juhi Chawla is Dr Sonali. As a psychiatric she knows what's wrong with her patients; as a sensitive woman she firmly believes that if you really want to make them well, you should treat them with your heart, not just your mind.

Arshad Warsi is Raja. Truly the angry young man! His blood boils, his fists clench and he's ready to beat the daylights out of anyone who upsets him in some way.

Irrfan Khan is Dr Mukherjee. He has decided that he's the Captain of the team! But so obsessed is he by the need to be in control of a situation, he doesn't realise he's totally lost control of himself and his mind.

Rajpal Yadav is Gangadhar. He's marching to a beat only he can hear; he's fighting for a cause that's long over. But in his muddled mind he's still fighting for Swaraj; still hobnobbing with the likes of Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi.

Suresh Menon is Dabboo. Cute and adorable, he's everybody's pet and however far gone the rest may be, when it comes to Dabboo, everybody's super protective. Even if he can hear and understand, Dabboo refuses to speak. And nobody knows why!

Dia Mirza is Shikha. As a TV reporter she controls the news on the channel, but as a woman she's unable to control the unruly and unmanageable rage of Raja - the man she loves.

Rajat Kapur is Industrialist R K Sanyal, who's also Dr Sonali's husband. But in his quest for power and money he takes a step that will have alarming consequences for his wife and her patients – the krazzy 4!

Zaakir Hussain is Srivastav. He is so neck deep in illegal activities that now he'll stoop to anything – even kidnapping and murder – to keep him ahead.
